Major sea wall defences are currently being put back into place at Amroth with the use of a giant crane. The massive 'wave deflector units' were toppled over by the strong waves during the storms early in the New Year. Work to undertake the 'big lift' started on Tuesday, and will last for up to 10 days. The seafront road at Amroth where the work is taking place will be closed completely to traffic while the work takes place, with diversions in place for motorists. There is a temporary footpath for pedestrians across the field behind the works. "We have already completed the installation of a substantial new concrete wall on which to base these wave deflector units," said Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for highways. "The road will be closed for the entire duration because of size of the crane and the need to keep a 'safe zone' around it as it lifts. "Overall progress to date has been excellent, and we hope to finish all the work by the end of June."
