A Milford Haven man who was aggressive towards a shopkeeper at a premises he was banned from entering has been given a 12-month community order.
Thirty-three-year-old Robert Anthony Glyn Parker, of Elm Lane, pleaded guilty to a charge of using threatening behaviour towards Filgi Varghese, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The defendant also admitted damaging a fire alarm at County Stores in Haverfodwest.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that on February 16, Mr. Parker entered the store on Market Street shortly after 6 pm, and was asked to leave by the manager as he was banned from the premises.
“Mr. Parker claimed to Mr. Varghese that it was not him who was banned, but his brother, but he was told a number of times to leave,” she said.
“He continued to argue and at one point picked up a packet of sweets and threatened to hit the complainant.
“A witness told police that Mr. Parker was very aggressive towards the shopkeeper, who felt he was about to be assaulted,” added Ms Morgan.
As he left the store, Mr. Parker hit the fire alarm and the incident was captured on CCTV.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told magistrates that his client, who had been given a custodial sentence in the past, had suffered with chronic alcoholism and addiction to legal highs.
“This is the first time in some time that he has been in court, so this was somewhat a blip,” said Mr. Layton.
“It was Mr. Parker’s birthday and he was very drunk. In terms of his drinking, he has had it under control and is moving in the right direction, so it is with great regret that he finds himself in court again,” he added.
Probation officer Julie Norman told magistrates that Mr. Parker was subject to post sentence supervision which was due to end next month, after six weeks imprisonment.
Magistrates gave Mr. Parker a 12-month community order, with 50 hours of unpaid work, and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement of 20 days.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85, a £60 victim surcharge, and compensation of £72 to County Stores.
