Teenagers ‘tombstoning’ in Tenby have once again been warned about the dangers of the activity after a group were caught jumping into the sea off one of the resort’s historic landmarks on the weekend.
Tenby Coastguard Rescue team and the RNLI’s Inshore Lifeboat Boat were paged to reports of persons ‘tombstoning’ (jumping into water in a near vertical position from a height)?off the highest point St Catherine’s Island, on Saturday.
The ILB recovered the group of youngsters to Castle Beach where they were met by members of the Coastguard team who issued safety advice.
St. Catherine’s Island manager John Loring said: “First and foremost thank you to Tenby Lifeboats RNLI and the HM Coastguard team for their response to what we on the Island actively discourage at every given opportunity, not simply for the dangers involved in ‘tombstoning’ but the current and tidal race that encircle the Island.
