A man from Neyland who stole DVDs from a pound store has been ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £195 in court.
Twenty-eight-year-old Wayne Steven Davies, of George Street, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing four DVDs from Poundland; and a Nokia mobile phone, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Dennis Davies told the court that a lady catching a bus at the station in Haverfordwest on October 31, realised that her phone had gone.
“The mobile was dropped, and the defendant recovered it. Mr. Davies was arrested on an unrelated mater whilst he was on the bus as he had stolen DVDs in his bag,” he explained.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that his client made full and frank admissions in a statement given to the police.
“He admitted he should have handed the mobile phone in, but he hoped to sell it to get money for food,” he said.
Probation officer Julie Norman told magistrates that Mr. Davies had recently spent a term of imprisonment in Llanelli, explaining that he had substance issues in the past, and that he attended weekly appointments with probation.
Magistrates fined the defendant £40 for each offence of theft and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
