A Llanelli man has appeared in court charged with possessing cannabis in Tenby.

Twenty-one-year-old James Warren Allen appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing 1.5 grams of cannabis on June 11.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court that police had attended a premises along the resort’s Esplanade shortly before 1.30 am for an unrelated matter.

“When there, officers saw a bag of cannabis on the window sill in the room where Mr. Allen was. The defendant fully admitted it was his and for his own personal use,” said Mr. Pritchard Jones, explaining that Mr. Allen was currently on post-sentence supervision.

Defence solicitor Peter Rhys Jones told the court that his client had recently served 32 weeks imprisonment for a GBH charge.

“His behaviour under licence has been excellent and he has fully engaged with the probation service. Mr. Allen has not re-offended since, apart from this relatively minor matter,” he said.

Magistrates gave Mr. Allen a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.

A destruction order for the drugs was also passed.
