Police have confirmed that a motorist died today after being taken to hospital following an incident where their vehicle left the road while travelling on the A40 near Canaston Bridge, Narberth during the early hours.

A police spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police were called just before 4.30 am this morning, Thursday, February 7, to a report that a vehicle had left the A40 road near Canaston Bridge, Pembrokeshire.

“The male driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital but has sadly passed away. Next of kin have been advised and are being supported by specialist officers.

"The road was closed with diversions in place and reopened at 8.35 am.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that they were called today at approximately 4.30 am to reports of a road traffic collision on the A40 near Canaston Bridge, Narberth, responding with two emergency ambulances, with one person taken to Withybush Hospital.

A spokeperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and rescue Service reported that crews from Narberth and Haverfordwest attended, and a male casualty was released from a vehicle, which had collided with a hedge.It has since been confirmed by police that a post mortem examination concluded that the person died as a result of a medical episode, and therefore the matter is no longer being investigated as a road traffic collision.
