A man who threw a pint of lager over a barmaid at a pub he was drinking at has been fined in court.
Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Lewis, of Meyler Crescent, Milford Haven pleaded guilty to a charge of assault when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that the incident occurred at the Castle Hotel in Haverfordwest on May 19.
“On this particular evening, the complainant was working at the public house behind the bar, when Mr. Lewis who was known to her, entered the premises with a group of friends.
“The complainant told police officers when interviewed that there had been previous incidents between both parties.
“Whilst she was working, Mr. Lewis and his friends started shouting abuse towards her, calling her a slag and a tramp,” she continued.
The court heard that the defendant and those he was with, were asked to leave, but the abuse continued, until Mr. Lewis picked up his glass and threw its contents towards the complainant, who was taken into the pub’s cellar by another staff member.
“Mr. Lewis continued to fight with bouncers outside. He has previous assault matters on record,” Ms Vaughan told magistrates, who were shown CCTV footage of the incident.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that there was history between Mr. Lewis and the girl in question.
“He appeared to be goading the complainant and went to throw the alcohol in his glass not at her, but towards the bar, but the glass did not leave his hand.
“This was an incident between two people that don’t get along, and left her covered in alcohol.
“It has backfired on him and it will be a lesson that I know Mr. Lewis will learn from,” added Mr. Webb.
Magistrates told Mr. Lewis that judging from the CCTV footage, that his actions had shown a degree of ‘gratuitous degradation’ intended, before fining him £120 for the offence and ordering him to pay compensation of £10 to the victim.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
