A Pembroke woman with an antecedent history has been fined in court after admitting stealing goods from a supermarket store.
Thirty-five-year-old Lisa Ann Stewart, of London Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing food and toiletries to the value of £152.50 from the Asda store in Pembroke Dock, when she appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that around 12.15 pm on March 9, police received a report from the Asda store of theft.
“Ms Stewart came into the shop and was captured on CCTV walking down the aisle pushing a trolley full of items and heading towards the external exit of the premises.
“She was intercepted by the store manager and detained by store staff until the police came and arrested her,” explained Ms Morgan.
Defence solicitor Matthew Greenish told the court that his client fully accepted the offence but that she didn’t know why she did it.
“She suffers from medical conditions, and her ex partner was released from prison recently, so her stress levels had gone up, but this is no excuse,” said Mr. Greenish, explaining that Ms Stewart had an antecedent history and was already subject to a community order, regularly meeting with the probation service.
Probation officer Julie Norman told magistrates that Ms Stewart committed this latest shoplifting offence one month into an 18 month community order.
Magistrates elected to let the current community order run and fined the defendant £40 for the offence.
She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
