A Pembroke man found in possession of drugs whilst at the police station for another matter has been fined in court.
Twenty-eight-year-old Benjamin Phillips, of Laugharne Close, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to a charge of possessing 0.7g of amphetamine.
Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that Mr. Phillips was at Haverfordwest police station on February 13, on another matter, when he was searched by officers who found a plastic bag on him, containing the drugs.
“He admitted the offence when interviewed, and said that they were for his own personal use.
“Mr. Phillips has two other drugs matters on record between 2009 and 2012. He is subject to a six month suspended sentence order, but this matter pre-dates that, so he is not in breach of the order,” explained Mr. Hussain.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Phillips was progressing well with the probation terms of his previous order and had completed 67 out of the 100 unpaid hours he was required to carry out in the community.
“He has seen doctors on a voluntarily basis about his drug use. He was in a bad way at the time of this offence, and on this occasion had relapsed and taken a small amount of amphetamines,” said Mr. Kelleher.
Magistrates fined the defendant £80 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
