A Pembroke Dock woman has been fined in court for possessing amphetamine after her car was searched by police officers.

Thirty-four-year-old Elaine Nicholas, of Bush Street, pleaded guilty to possessing 0.6 grams of the drug when she appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that the defendant came to the attention of police officers on October 12, due to the funny way she had parked her car across two bays in the Asda car park.

“Officers went to speak to her and could smell cannabis. Ms Nicholas then produced a bag containing amphetamine. She has six previous convictions for drugs, all recent, so she obviously has a problem with drugs,” he added.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told magistrates that his client was parked in the car park as she was making use of the supermarket’s free wi-fi.

“Her car is almost like her second home, and as a result is extremely untidy! Police said they had the power to search her vehicle, so she assisted them, and to her surprise she found a wrapper of amphetamine.

“She had no idea it was there, and would have thrown it out if she was more car proud and had kept it tidier!

“Ms Nicholas was a regular user, but has not used amphetamine for some time,” added Mr. Kelleher.

Magistrates fined Ms Nicholas £80 and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. They also passed a destruction order for the drugs.
