A Pembroke Dock man has been fined in court after pleading guilty to cannabis possession.
Forty-seven-year-old Allan John Smith, of Bush Street, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing one gram of cannabis in Pembroke Dock on March 23.
Prosecutor Abul Hussain told magistrates that police officers attended Mr. Smith’s home address and could smell cannabis coming from inside.
“He told officers that he’d been smoking earlier and had cannabis in his bedroom and also some in his trouser pocket. Mr. Smith has four previous convictions for drug offences,” explained Mr. Hussain.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that the police officers had gone to another address nearby to make enquiries on an unrelated matter, but had happened to knock on Mr. Smith’s door.
He told the court that the defendant used cannabis as a form of medication as he suffered with depression and anxiety.
Magistrates fined Mr. Smith £40 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
