A Pembroke Dock man has been fined in court after admitting possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Twenty-three-year-old Kyle Aaron Anton Jones, of Law Street, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of possessing 20.9 grammes of the drug.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told magistrates that police officers attended the defendant’s address at around 4 pm, on September 26, for an unrelated matter.

“A pungent smell of cannabis was emanating from the premises, and police found the drug loose on the counter along with a bong, grinder and a bag of cash containing £360,” she said.

Mr. Jones’s girlfriend who was present was given a caution, and further investigations by police officers discovered mobile phone text messages showing intention to supply the cannabis on a more commercial basis.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client had fully co-operated with police and that the matter had been hanging over his head for 10 months.

“Mr. Jones accepted that he purchased a large quantity, but half was for himself and half was for his friend.

“It was a joint purchase between him and his friend, and it was accepted that Mr. Jones gave some of the cannabis to his girlfriend, but there was no evidence that anyone else had been supplied.”

The court heard that Mr. Jones had paid £280 for the cannabis and that police officers had given it a street value of £209.

Magistrates fined the defendant £113 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
