A Neyland man has been fined in court for possessing cannabis.
Twenty-nine-year-old Stephen James Rees, of College Parl, pleaded guilty to possessing 0.2 grams of herbal cannabis, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Dennis Davies told the court that at around 11.20 pm on August 28, police officers on duty walking around Vale Road in Neyland, started speaking to the defendant who was walking as well.
“Officers noticed that he was hyperactive and suspected that he may have taken some form of drug. Mr. Rees handed over a tobacco tin that had cannabis resin inside, and said that it was for his own personal use,” he explained.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that it was such a small amount of cannabis that his client had expected police officers to just throw it away.
“My client had stopped taking cannabis, and then since a motorbike accident where he suffered a broken collar bone and required pins and plates in his arm, he started using it again to self-medicate,” he said.
Magistrates fined Mr. Rees £40 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
