A Monkton motorist has been handed a driving ban after admitting getting behind the wheel of his van drunk.
Twenty-nine-year-old Ryan Kidd, of Tenby Court, admitted driving his Vauxhall Combo vehicle, having exceeded the prescribed limit of alcohol, when he appeared at Havefordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that shortly after midnight on March 10, police officers were forced to brake hard in their vehicle after Mr. Kidd had pulled out in front of them on London Road in Pembroke Dock.
“They spoke to the driver and could smell alcohol,” she explained.
The court heard how after his arrest, Mr. Kidd, who had a previous conviction for a similar matter back in 2006, gave a reading of 71 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at the police station.
Defence solicitor Stacey Holmes told the court that her client, who worked in construction as a roofer, had made a ‘stupid mistake’ and he fully accepted his actions and had shown remorse.
“He had been drinking with friends and after consuming five or six pints of lager, he foolishly decided to offer one of his friend’s a lift home,” she said.
Magistrates fined the defendant £340 for the offence and disqualified him from driving for 17 months.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £34 victim surcharge.
