The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that a second soldier has died following an incident at Castlemartin Ranges on Wednesday.
“It is with great sorrow I can confirm the death of a second soldier from the Royal Tank Regiment following Wednesday’s incident at Castlemartin Ranges. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time who have request that their privacy be respected,” said Minister for People and Veterans, Tobias Ellwood in a statement issued on Thursday night.
The MOD confirmed yesterday that one soldier had died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident at the Royal Armoured Corps range which occurred at 3.30pm on Wednesday, and is believed to have involved a Challenger 2 main battle tank.The investigation at Castlemartin is continuing, led by Dyfed-Powys Police working closely with Health and Safety Executive and the Ministry of Defence.“Dyfed-Powys Police can sadly confirm a second man has died following an incident involving a tank at MOD Royal Armoured Corps range in Castlemartin. He died at Heath Hospital in Cardiff yesterday afternoon (June 15),” said a police spokesperson.“This follows the death of another man who died yesterday morning at Morriston Hospital. Two men remain in serious conditions in hospital.“All next of kin of those injured and deceased have been informed and are being supported.”
