A Milford man with an antecedent history has appeared in court again after trying to flee his latest arrest.
Thirty-one-year-old David McNaughton, of Dewsland Street, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of wilfully obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that police were in the process of arresting the defendant in Milford Haven on Wednesday, December 5, when he pulled away and ran off across the street.
“Officers gave chase and lost sight of Mr. McNaughton initially, but then found him nearby in a garden, hiding behind a shed.
Magistrates heard how Mr. McNaughton had an antecedent history and his most recent appearance in court was back in April when he was given a community order for assault.
Defence solicitor Stuart John told the court that his client had behaved the way he did and tried to flee the arrest, due to his antecedent past.
“He panicked and ran away, when plainly he shouldn’t have done.
“Historically he has been in and out of the court most of his adult life, but I’d ask that the community order be allowed to continue as he is engaging with the probation service,” he added.
Magistrates fined Mr. McNaughton £40 for the offence, and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
