A Milford man who appeared to ‘shake incessantly’ when spoke to by police on his pushbike appeared in court this week charged with possessing a quantity of amphetamines.
Thirty-seven-year-old Steven Lee Barham, of Bunkers Hill, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to possessing 5.2 grams of the drug in Milford Haven on April 22.
Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that Mr. Barham was approached by two police officers during the early hours as he was riding his pushbike.
“He was known to the officers and they stopped to speak to him, but he started to shake incessantly. Officers then carried out a search under the misuse of drugs act and found the wrap in his possession containing the amphetamines.”
The court heard how Mr. Barham was in breach of a 12 month conditional discharge that he received in January.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that it was a small amount of drugs that Mr. Barham admitted were for his own personal use.
“He takes them to assist with depression. he is not somebody who has appeared time after time in court. He has not taken anything since and has been in contact with Dyfed Drug and Alcohol Service.”
Magistrates told the defendant that they were concerned that his was back in court so soon after being handed a conditional discharge earlier in the year, before giving him a four week curfew from 7 pm to 7 am.
Mr. Barham was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and an £85 victim surcharge. A forfeiture and destruction order was also passed for the drugs.
