A man who drunkenly smashed a bathroom window to gain access to a property he was staying at in Fishguard, has admitted the charge in court.

Thirty-six-year-old Ricky Kinsella, of Briskham Cottages, St Dogmaels, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after admitting destroying a window belonging to Clive Saunders in Fishguard, on March 27.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that the defendant had been staying at his cousin’s property and had been out drinking, but when he returned home that night he couldn’t get in.

“He smashed the bathroom window to gain entry, and left blood behind as evidence,” she explained.

Defence solicitor Mark Layton told magistrates that Mr. Kinsella had been sent a text message that night from his cousin to stay that he had to go out due to a family crisis, so he would have to find somewhere else to stay for the night.

“He didn’t get the message, and got home a little worse for wear and smashed the window to try and get in. He is very sorry for what happened,” explained Mr. Layton.

Magistrates fined Mr. Kinsella £40 for the offence and ordered him to pay £100 compensation to the complainant.

“For the drunken state you got yourself in, unfortunately you will have to pay dearly,” chief magistrate David Simpson told the defendant.

Mr. Kinsella was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
