A Kilgetty man heard shouting racially abusive language from his property by a neighbour has been fined in court.
Fifty-two-year-old Vaughan Beynon, of Park Avenue, pleaded guilty to a charge of using abusive words, with the offence racially aggravated, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Abdul Hussain told magistrates that the evidence in the case came from Mr. Beynon’s neighbour who was outside in their garden on August 15 at around 6 pm, with their four-year-old son.
“The neighbour heard what sounded like Mr. Beynon having a conversation, but he was using abusive language, so the neighbour took their child inside,” he explained.
The court heard how Mr. Beynon used racially aggravating profanities towards the English, and when police officers arrived at the property, they too heard him shouting abusive language, along with music coming from his premises.
In a police interview, Mr. Beynon told officers that he was normally a happy person, but that his abusive language was the result of him getting ‘too drunk’ that day.
Addressing the magistrates himself, Mr. Beynon said that he was ‘very embarrassed’ about the incident, but that he had little recollection of it.
“It was a one-off, I was under a lot of stress at time from work, but that is no excuse for my behaviour,” said Mr. Beynon.
“I was not addressing the remarks to my neighbour, I was just shouting, but I don’t know why,” he added.
Magistrates fined the defendant £240 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
