A Kilgetty man has been banned from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle for 20 months after admitting a series of driving offences in court, including exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
Fifty-seven-year-old Lesley Mark Davies, of Carmarthen Road, pleaded guilty to driving his Volkswagen Golf with 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, on the Skrinkle Estate in Manorbier, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He also admitted using a motor vehicle in a public place without third party insurance; and driving a vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told magistrates that at 5.30 am, on January 14, police officers became aware of a VW car travelling towards them, and they were concerned at the manner of which it was being driven.
“The vehicle was being driven erratically and at speed. It crossed the centre line of the road and officers had to take evasive action to avoid a collision,” she explained.
When officers stopped the vehicle, Mr. Davies volunteered to them that he’d been drinking and said that he’d consumed six beers earlier. He also said that he’d taken the vehicle which was his, but in his partner’s name, telling officers ‘I took it, what’s done is done’.
Defence solicitor Katy Hanson told the court that Mr. Davies regretted his actions.
“He’d had an argument with his partner that morning and stupidly left the house. He is very sorry for what happened,” she said.
Magistrates disqualified Mr. Davies from driving for 20 months, and a total of nine points were put on his licence.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £770 in fines, court costs and charges.
