A Milton man who got behind the wheel whilst drunk after discovering that he had lost his job has been handed an 18 month driving ban.

Twenty-six-year-old, Max Hunter of Milton Meadows appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court to plead guilty to driving whilst over the prescribed limit.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told that the court at 3.10 am on February 20, police officers were drawn to the attention of a Seat Leon at Merlins Bridge in Haverfordwest, after it was spotted driving slowly, with its sidelights on.

The defendant was pulled over where his speech was slurred, and after failing a road side breath test he was taken into custody where he gave an evidential sample of 64 microgrammes of alcohol, the legal limit being 35.

Defence solicitor Katy Hanson told the court that this was completely out of character for her client and that he had no previous convictions.

She said that on the same day that he lost his job, the defendant had an argument with his family.

Ms. Hanson explainde that Mr. Hunter had been drinking in the afternoon and felt okay to drive after falling asleep, but he accepted the reading.

On sentencing the chairman of the bench, said: “It’s sad to see you in court for the first time ever. Drink-driving is not acceptable these days.”

Magistrates fined the defendant £120 and ordered him to pay £85 in costs along with a £32 victim surcharge.

He was also handed an 18-month driving ban.
