A Milford man arrested after being spotted carrying a bag of cannabis around a supermarket by an off-duty police officer, has appeared in court.
Twenty-two-year-old Martin Rees, of Brooke Avenue, pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing one gram of cannabis, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told magistrates that on January 25, at around 11 pm, a police officer received a ’phone call from an off-duty colleague in civilian clothes who was shopping in Haverfordwest’s Tesco store, who had noticed the defendant carrying a bag of cannabis.
“Mr. Rees was approached on Dew Street by an officer who also noticed a strong smell of cannabis on him, and he handed the bag over, before being arrested and taken to Haverfordwest Police Station,” explained Ms Morgan.
Mr. Rees told the court that he took cannabis as he had epilepsy and it some times helped to control his seizures.
Magistrates fined Mr. Rees £100 for the offence and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge. A destruction order was also passed for the drugs.
