A father and son who had been out for a couple of pre-Christmas drinks in Neyland have appeared in court to face charges of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Fifty-two-year-old Neil Rigby, of Cartlett, Haverfordwest and twenty-year-old Lee Rigby, of Neyland Terrace, both appeared in the dock together at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that the incident occurred on Kensington Road in Neyland on December 18.

“Both parties had been fighting at some point which led to police involvement. Then some unpleasant comments were directed at the police officers who dealt with the matter,” she explained.

Representing themselves in court, both defendants apologised for their behaviour.

“I apologise, and I wasn’t aware that I’d been abusive towards the police officers. We’d been out for a pre-Christmas drink. We were not fighting, it was just a misunderstanding,” Neil Rigby told magistrates.

Magistrates told both defendants that this was a very ‘unsavoury incident’ that occurred at 7 pm when there were families out and about, who would not appreciate the ‘appalling language’ that was used.

Neil Rigby was fined £40 for the offence, whilst his son Lee, who had been charged with a similar matter back in April was handed an £80 fine.

Both defendants were each ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
