A man accused of being drunk and disorderly in Tenby and abusive towards members of the public on a busy Friday afternoon in the resort has appeared in court.
Thirty-five-year-old George Gerald Hinton, of High Street, Haverfordwest, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Tenby, on May 26.
He also admitted possessing 0.3 grammes of cannabis at the same hearing.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan told the court that police officers were asked to attend a call shortly before 2.30 pm, to respond to reports of a man being drunk and abusive towards members of the public in Tenby High Street.
“As police officers approached the town centre in their vehicle, a man fitting the description given was crossing the road beteween the Lifeboat pub and Tenby House Hotel.
“He was clearly intoxicated and walked past the police car closely missing bumping into the vehicle,” she said.
Mr. Hinton was unsteady on his feet, and when officers spoke to him, he was calm at some points and then aggressive.
“He kept swearing and was warned about his language. There were lots of families around at that time,” continued Miss Morgan.
After his arrest, a quantity of cannabis was found in his possession, which he claimed he had found outside of Tesco.
Defence solicitor Mark Layton told the court that his client said he was ‘surprised’ by his own behaviour and accepted that he was drunk and disorderly.
Magistrates decided that as Mr. Hinton was already subject to a suspended order, they would transfer the case to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
The defendant, who was released on unconditional bail, was told that his next hearing would be on July 11.
