A mother who was arrested after being found drunk and disorderly, rolling around on the street, has vowed to seek help for alcohol problems, after appearing in court this week.
Twenty-six-year-old Cherish Phoebe Watts, formerly of Springfield Close in Neyland, now of Haverfordwest, pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place, when she appeared at the county’s Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that it was just after 11 pm on Saturday, January 5, when police officers were called out to an incident on Charles Street in Milford Haven.
“The defendant was clearly drunk and staggering around and kicking cars.
“She had taken her blouse off and was in the process of taking her bra off too when officers arrived on the scene.
“Miss Watts was rolling around on the floor, dragging herself out on the pavement. Police officers told her to do her blouse up for her own dignity. Due to onlookers coming out to see what was going on, officers arrested the defendant for her own good and dignity,” he added.
Defence solicitor Stuart John told the court that Miss Watts’ problems stemmed from alcohol.
“She tells me she does not rely on it on a daily basis, and does not view it as a necessity, but I’ve told her, of someone is getting into this kind of state regularly through alcohol, then it is very much a problem.
“Miss Watts says there are reasons for her drinking that she doesn’t want to go into in an open court. This was a comparatively minor offence, but she knows her drinking could lead to more serious offences, and cause herself or someone else more physical harm.
“She has an eight year old son who she looks after. Her intention is to contact her doctor to find out in detail why she is turning to drink so much,” added Mr. John.
Magistrates told Miss Watts that they hoped she would address her alcohol problem by going to her doctors, before handing her a two year conditional discharge.
She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
