A driver who collided with another vehicle has been fined in court.

Sixty-year-old Michael William Bolton, of Lawrenny Road, Cresselly, was charged with driving a vehicle without due care and attention.

The defendant appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Monday for a trial after originally pleading not guilty to the offence, but he changed his plea to guilty.

Magistrates heard how on April 4, Mr. Bolton was driving a Ford Fusion on the Cresselly to Cresswell Quay road.

It was here that a vehicle was travelling along a single lane road in the direction of Cresswell Quay.

The defendant was travelling in the opposite direction at speed. He braked to avoid a collision, but skidded across the carriageway and collided with the oncoming vehicle.

The court was told that the oncoming vehicle had to swerve to the nearside in an attempt to avoid contact.

As a result of the collision, the two occupants of each vehicle sustained slight injuries.

However, a dog that had been travelling in the other vehicle had to be put down the day after the collision and both vehicles were damaged.

Mr. Bolton was fined £90 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30.

The defendant was also ordered to pay £200 in prosecution costs.
