A man caught driving whilst disqualified has been warned in court that he may end up in jail if caught behind the wheel of a vehicle again whilst banned.

Thirty-one-year-old Steven Rees, of College Park, Neyland, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a Vauxhall Corsa whilst disqualified when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday. He also admitted a further charge of using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that Mr. Rees was disqualified until November 2019, after being handed a 42 month ban for drink-driving back in 2016.

Magistrates heard how Mr. Rees was seen to be driving a car in Neyland on the morning of May 3 by a police officer, and stopped at the time.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Rees hadn’t driven a significant distance and was ‘literally two streets’ away from his own.

Magistrates told the defendant that he may well end up in jail if he is caught driving again whilst serving a ban, before fining him a total of £240 for both offences and handing him a further 21 months disqualification.

Mr. Rees was also given six penalty points for having no valid insurance and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
