A Pembroke Dock man has been fined in court for cannabis possession.

Thirty-eight-year-old Alvin David Demery, of Meyrick Street, pleaded guilty to possessing 24.8 grammes of cannabis resin, when he appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that police officers were searching the defendant’s property on November 11, in relation to an unrelated matter, when they found a home-made bong, two grinders, two adapted pipes for smoking cannabis, and a small bar of cannabis resin in a bowl, that was 24. grammes when weighed.

Magistrates heard that Mr. Demery had similar convictions for cannabis possession previously.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that his client had fully co-operated with the police.

“He suffers severe anxiety and depression, and walks with the aid of a crutch, after injuring his knee and ankle when he fell down some stairs some years ago.

“Mr. Demery smokes cannabis to relieve pain and symptoms, there is no suggestion that it is for anything other than personal use,” he explained.

Magistrates fined the defendant £80 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.

They also made a destruction order for the drugs and paraphernalia.
