The cost of vandalism to communities will be highlighted by Hubberston’s councillor this week.

On Thursday (November 21) Clr. Viv Stoddart’s Notice of Motion calling on the council to log all incidents of vandalism to its property along with the cost of repairs will be discussed by the services overview and scrutiny committee.

Clr. Stoddart also wants the log to include the loss of the asset to the community when the cost of repairs “proves prohibitive.”

Supporting her motion, Clr. Stoddart states: “Hubberston (my ward) has been blighted by vandalism over many months.

“Hubberston is not along in suffering anti-social behaviour, but there is no way at present of assessing the cumulative effect of these criminal acts on our communities; no mechanism for totting up the cost, both the financial cost and the loss of amenities to the community.”

Clr. Stoddart wants to an overall picture of the “seriousness of anti-social behaviour in the county.”

“If we are to improve the quality of life for the people of Pembrokeshire, we need to have an understanding of the extent of the problem. We can then consider possible preventative and deterrent actions to counter this destructive behaviour,” she adds.
