A Swansea woman who had a bust-up with her partner in Tenby before attempting to drive back to her home drunk, has been disqualified from driving for 14 months.
Thirty-six-year-old Lyndy Evans, of Loughor, admitted a charge of driving her Vauxhall Astra with 50 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeding the prescribed limit, when she appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that during the early hours of March 19, police officers received information and spotted Mrs. Evans’s vehicle travelling eastbound along the A477 at Stepaside.
“Officers followed the vehicle and noticed her car was crossing over the white lines in the middle of the road and she was pulled over into a lay-by by the police.
“Officers could smell alcohol on Mrs. Evans’s breath and she was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving,” added Mr. Hussain.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that the defendant had been to Tenby for the day with her husband and they had intended on staying at a hotel in the resort.
“She’d consumed four pints between late lunchtime and 8 pm, but the couple had a row and he went back to the hotel.
“Mrs. Evans has had issues in a past relationship involving domestic violence, and fearing something similar might happen, she ran away, fully believing that she was ok to drive.
“She hasn’t been in a court in her 36 years, and I very much doubt she will be back anytime soon,” continued Mr. Webb.
Magistrates disqualified Mrs. Evans from driving for 14 months and fined her £200 for the offence. She was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
