A Milford man who drunkenly threw a beer bottle towards door staff who refused him entry to a nightclub that he was barred from has been fined in court.
Twenty-six-year-old Ryan Carlmain, of Willow End, Mount Estate, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of using threatening and abusive behaviour on September 28 in Milford Haven.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court an initial problem arose at 12.15 am outside the Astoria club which Mr. Carlmain was banned from life from entering.
“He was with another male and holding a bottle of beer, trying to get into the premises, but he was refused by door staff as he was banned.”
The court heard that the defendant was pushed away by door staff in an altercation, and then proceeded to throw the bottle he was holding towards the entrance of the club, which smashed, causing shards of glass to hit a doorman on the leg.
Police arrived on the scene at around 12.40 am and doorstaff gave Mr. Carlmain’s name to them, but he had gone at this point.
The defendant then returned agin to the club at 1.20 am and police came onto the premises silently so that he wouldn’t be notified of their presence.
“He didn’t see them coming, and Mr. Carlmain was identified by police from CCTV as the person that had thrown the bottle,” continued Mr. Pritchard-Jones.
“This was clearly a potentially dangerous act throwing a bottle towards people, but he has been charged with a lesser act.”
Addressing magistrates himself, Mr. Carlmain disputed that he was banned from the premises at the time and that he had thrown the bottle in frustration at not being allowed in.
“It was a stupid thing to do, but if I’d hot someone with the bottle, which I don’t believe I did, then obviously I would say sorry to that person,” he said.
Magistrates fined the defendant £120 for the offence and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £32 victim surcharge.
