Tenby could be in line for a new 4G sports pitch to facilitate local football and rugby teams.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mike Evans welcomed the news that a new pool and ‘family entertainment centre’ could be built for the town as part of Pembrokeshire County Council’s ‘vision’ for leisure services over the next 10 years.

Leisure strategy director, Rachel Fowler, ran through a detailed report for members of the policy and pre-decision overview and scrutiny committee recently, highlighting schemes such as a new pool for Tenby’s Leisure Centre and the possibility of a ‘family entertainment centre’ designed to be ideal in wet weather.

“What the report missed was the commitment to build 4G pitches in the area for Tenby, which is very achievable,” Clr. Evans told his colleagues.

“The Clicketts would be ideal for such facilities and I’ve already had discussions with representatives from Tenby RFC and AFC, and also spoken to the head of games at Greenhill School.

“I’d like this put on the town council agenda and hopefully it will gain your support,” he added.

The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, said that she had recently attended Tenby’s football presentation evening, and discovered that over 150 youngsters were involved in the set-up, from Under 6 upwards.

“It’s absolutely fantastic, and well done to all the organisers, trainers and coaches,” she remarked.
