On Wednesday, June 6, many members of Carew WI, along with their guests, enjoyed a mystery tour covering 100 miles, which was part of their 100th year celebrations. The trip was funded by the lottery.
The weather was glorious and as the coach meandered into Carmarthenshire and then back into Pembrokeshire, many of the members tried to guess and then revise the whereabouts of their first destination!
We arrived at the first venue, The National Wool Museum in Felindre, to enjoy a fascinating tour of the yarn production process from the raw fleece to the weaving of Welsh blankets.
Many were impressed by the fantastic textile installation ’Curtain of Poppies’. 70,000 poppies knitted or crocheted to commemorate people from the UK who died serving their country in the First World War.
Refreshments followed and then a trip on the Teifi Railway and a tour of the Celteg Organic Winery at Henllan.
Elderflower champagne tasting certainly hit the mark and a guided tour of the winery gave everyone a fascinating insight into the making of organic wines and preserves. Many took the opportunity to do some early Christmas gift shopping!
Shopping in hand, a very hot and tired party boarded the coach and headed for their evening meal venue. As the coach drove passed many venues, members began to think we were going to run out of somewhere to eat, but not the case.
A lovely evening meal was enjoyed at the Nant-Y-Ffin Hotel before posing for this group picture and boarding the coach for the last time. A huge thank you to the coach driver manoeuvring the coach around all those country lanes!
Although our president Mim was unable to attend, Margaret Fieldhouse read out a message of good wishes to all before dinner and happy birthday was sung to Rosemary Griffiths.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 4, when Sam Barry will give a talk from ’Dementia Friends’.
